Print with square shape showing a tobacco plant in bloom on the left, the roots also illutrated, on the right a smoking portrait of a man's head with a large cigar shape from which flames come, page from a book with column numbers 237-238, the illustration hand-coloured, the text of the folio page in the French language with "CULTURE DE LA NICOTIANE." In passepartout.

Comments
Mathias (Mathieu) de l'Obel (ook De Lobel of Delobel, 1538-1616) publiceert samen met Pierre Pena (sterft 1620) in 1571 Stirpium adversaria nova. In 1576 als Plantarum seu stirpium historia en in 1581 in het Vlaams vertaald met als titel Kruydtboeck. Bevat 286 houtgravures.

They had no notion of what a cigar looked like.
